What is it?

Typical features include allowing comments or ratings on photos, grouping photos into sets or galleries for a particular topic or date, tagging photos with keywords, and sometimes restricting access to particular groups of viewers (known users, or people with a given password).

"Siblings" (similar tools)

Photo-sharing tools act like online versions of photo management software that you may have on your own computer, such as iPhoto or Picasa.

"Friends" (oft-combined tools)

Blogs Newsreaders (RSS readers)

What it is good for

Keeping a visual diary; reflective practice; sharing ideas with images rather than words. "Photo logging" (as opposed to more traditional blogging) can be a useful tool for those who are more comfortable, confident or interested in expressing themselves primarily visually rather than verbally.
