Pattern Name - Peer Instruction
Make lectures more interactive and engaging by using MCQs and peer discussion.
[edit]
Objectives
- Keep student attention
- Ensure an appropriate lecture pace
- Encourage critical thinking and discussion as new ideas are introduced
[edit]
Solution
- Break the lecture up into 15-20min blocks
- Pose multiple choice questions to the class on the material introduced at the end of each block
- Move on, review, or discuss, depending on proportion of correct answers
- In cases where the response is mixed, encourage students to try to convince their neighbour that theirs is the correct response, and then pose the question again.
